The old Church was dedicated to St. Baglan who was a disciple of St. Illtyd.  The headstones are situated around the outside of the churchyard.

The New Church of St.Catharine`s was built in 1875-82 a little below the Old Church. It was built by Mr Griffith Llewellyn JP of Baglan Hall at a cost of over £17,000.
